Many times I hear photographers (including myself) say “I got lucky on that shot”. But now I’m convinced that luck has little to do with it. Many of favorite shots were ones I never expected. Almost every time I go out to shoot, I have a well defined goal in mind. I was bored one evening and decided to head out with the intent of getting some fall colors. I did found those fall colors…so mission accomplished. It was close to sunset so I found a good spot and waited. The sunset was OK but not spectacular. My stomach was telling me it was time to eat. I was a few miles from one of my favorite towns in Oregon…Mt. Angel. I could hear the Glockenspiel Restaurant is in Mt. Angel was calling my name. Yes…the Wienerschnitzel was GREAT. Back to my car and head home?? Not when I saw St. Mary’s Church all lit up with the moon overhead.
So, luck had nothing to do with this shot. Being out there had everything to do with it. I love the unexpected.
